DJ Akil is an international DJ, producer and beatmaker, a key figure in French Hip Hop and the New York scene. CEO of Huperkut & Breakflow Records and affiliated artist on Ruckdown Records, he has embodied an uncompromising and authentic vision of Hip Hop for over thirty years.
DJ Akil deepened his Hip Hop culture by working for 10 years at Sound Records, the largest Paris-based record store specialized in Hip Hop. This daily immersion gave him privileged access to both American and French releases, building an encyclopedic knowledge of the genre. At the same time, he became an active player in the Parisian club scene — La Galerie, Le Divan du Monde, Le Man Ray, Le Gibus, Le Bataclan — and began recording mixtapes and projects with the HuperKut collective from his studio. In 2000, he represented labels Bronx Science and AV8 at the MixMove convention, alongside some of the biggest names in European and American DJing including DJ Tony Touch, PF Cuttin, Cut Killer, Crazy B and Poska.
Official DJ — Tours & Television
His reputation on stage opened the doors to France’s biggest artists. He became the official DJ for Salif (2007–2012), Princess Anies (2005–2010), Amara (2006–2008) and Les Spécialistes (2005–2008), accompanying them on national and international tours, television shows (Des Mots de Minuit on France 2, Hit Machine on M6, Star Academy on TF1 with P.Diddy) and festivals. He also performed as opening act for NTM at Parc des Princes, De La Soul at l’Élysée Montmartre, Cannibal Ox, The Beatnuts at Cabaret Sauvage and Pink at Bercy.
New York — Wu Tang Radio & The American Scene
In 2012, DJ Akil relocated to New York. He produced his first American EP, BoomBox Bullies, featuring artists from the Harlem Hip Hop scene, which quickly received airplay on American radio stations including East NY Radio. His encounter with Cappadonna of the Wu-Tang Clan opened the doors of the New York scene, leading him to become the official DJ resident of Wu-Tang Radio in 2013, then of Live From Brooklyn TV (LFBTV) from 2014 onwards. These New York years allowed him to collaborate with some of the greatest legends of American Hip Hop: Kool G Rap, The Beatnuts, Sean Price (R.I.P.), Tragedy Khadafi, Blahzay Blahzay, Jeru The Damaja, Large Professor, Brand Nubian, Afu-Ra, Royal Flush, Necro, Spit Gemz, Tash (The Alkaholiks) and many more.
Major Productions
As a producer, DJ Akil has delivered several landmark projects in the international Hip Hop world. He produced The Auraport by Tragedy Khadafi and Outlaw Music by The Beatnuts. In 2023, he released the album “Planetary Underworld” in collaboration with New York rapper Starvin B — 14 tracks entirely produced by DJ Akil, praised by the Hip Hop press on both sides of the Atlantic. In 2024, he dropped the single “Listen” featuring Blahzay Blahzay & Redddaz, the first taste of an upcoming album.
